One of the most important examples of Romanesque architecture in Italy, the Basilica of San Michele Maggiore, in Pavia, is a masterpiece.

Imperial church built in the first decades of the 12th century on a pre-existing Longobard one, the Basilica was the seat of the coronations of the emperors of the Italian Kingdom, in the period in which Pavia was its capital and here, among others, Emperor Frederick Barbarossa was crowned in 1155.

Pavia City council
The ancient Mezzabarba palace, a noble eighteenth-century palace, has been the seat of the Municipality of Pavia
since the unification of Italy, 1861

Built in XVIII century, in the recent years the building had gradually lost its beauty and delicacy due to the
continuous and, often inopportune, maintenance interventions. Who could have imagined that, under the layers
of acrylic color and paint, the soft and delicate late Baroque colors that had made this building a jewel in
the city of Pavia could still be found?
